Razer Blade Stealth 13 vs Dell XPS 13 – When you think of ultra portable laptops that are known for great quality chances are the both the the Razer Blade Stealth 13 and Dell XPS 13 will come to mind. Both laptops are known for being really well-built and having pretty powerful specs for their tiny size. So it would be fun to put them side-by-side and see how they actually compare .

But since many people use their laptop to do both gaming and work. Both of these laptops come in a variety of different configurations and prices with your choices mostly depending on where you are in the world and of course they’re completely different beasts with the Razer Blade a more gaming and the Dell aimed more at productivity.

Design

Both laptops actually weight about the same but the new XPS 13 is considerably smaller than the Razer Blade Stealth. It’s a bit shorter and less wide as well as a bit thinner, Dell has a 65 watt charger that is smaller than Razer 100 watt charger.

That also has really sturdy cables, so technically the Dell is slightly more portable although both laptops will easily fit most bags and backpacks without any problems.

Whatsever the Dell also feels a little bit sturdier since, it packs the same weight in a smaller format but actual build quality is pretty similar with both laptops being exceptionally well built and sturdy.

Dell XPS 13 use the materials for the surfaces as the bare metal, while Razer Blade Stealth just shows fingerprint everywhere both on the outside and on the inside and even if you just washyour hands and use it just for a tiny second it will look dirty.

While the silver outside of the tail doesn’t show anything and the carbon on the inside is more resistant as well and easier to clean.

Connections

Of course where the slightly thicker Razer does core points is the connections. Now both devices have a type C port on either side that can be used for charging, on the Dell both ports support Thunderbolt 3 on the Blade Stealth only the right one does.

But the Razer has an extra Type-A port on both sides as well offering the extra connections that gamers especially will probably need.

Dell XPS 13 does offer a Mini SD card reader and a Type-A to Type-C dongle, but it’s still 2 vs 4 USB ports. When it comes to the keyboard, both laptops have a really similar feel to them.

Keyboard & Webcam

Travel and required pressure is pretty similar and both have a nice little tactile feel that is great for typing as well as gaming. Honestly it is really hard to pick one over the other, the bottom right side is slightly different though with Razer Blade Stealth 13 choosing a smaller shift and full-size arrow keys.

While the Dell XPS 13 going for the traditional shift and smaller arrow keys instead. Dell also adds a fingerprint scanner, although since both laptops do have a webcam with Windows Hello face unlock, you can just use that instead.

Touchpad

The touchpad is pretty similar on both as well with both offering a nice glass surface and good tapping feel to them. The Razer Blade Stealth 13 laptop is slightly larger which is nice, but again there’s not much between them in terms of quality or experience.

Display

For the display both, Dell and Razer give you several options, with Dell XPS 13 you can either pick a 1200 pixel 60 Hertz IPS display or a 3840 x 2400 pixel 60 Hertz touch display. With Razer Blade Stealth 13 your display will depend on your GPU choice actually.

So if you take the GTX 1650 Max Q model you can only buy it with this 1080p 60 Hertz display, but if you’re in the US you can also pick a 4K Hertz display instead.

If you’re looking at productivity the longer 16 x 10 display on the Dell is better because of extra work space especially this super high resolution version. That also has really good image quality. Also the Razer has 60Hz 1080p panel is actually really good to.

It doesn’t have full srgb coverage like the Dell and the color calibration out of the factory is actually a little bit better, it also goes a tiny bit brighter although you won’t really be able to tell the difference, the same goes for contrast with both showing a very similar result.

CPU & Performances

When it comes to the CPU, both of these laptops come with an Intel Core i7 the 1065G7 which is a Quad-Core CPU with Hyper Threading. However there is actually a huge difference in typical clock speeds between these two, as the Razer Blade Stealth 13 is limited to 15 watts and Dell XPS 13 is limited to 25 watts.

There isn’t a huge difference in Single-Core performance but in all core tasks, Dell typically keeps its CPU over 3 Ghz, while Razer drops to around 1.4 to 1.5 and that leads to some pretty big differences in Multi-Core Benchmarks.

The Blade is still more than fast enough for some casual photo editing and even video editing if your application can use the dedicated GPU like Adobe Premiere. But it isn’t great if you need RAW CPU power.

GPU Options

When it comes to gaming however the Dell is in a clear disadvantage here since it’s only available with the Iris® Plus Graphics that’s built into the CPU. the Razer on the other hand can be found with either a GTX 1650 Max Q or an even more power 1650 TI Max Q.

That isn’t enough to start calling this tiny played a real gaming laptop, but remember there pretty much no other laptops that offer a Dedicated GPU in a small chassis like this. Unlike on the Dell that means that you can actually play AAA games on this little laptop.

Depending on the game expect 1080p at low to medium settings or consider dropping to 720p for the heaviest of titles with many lighter games, so you can easily play them on 1080p high or above.

On the Dell only expect to play the least demanding of titles like League of Legends or CS GO and most heavier titles will be completely unplayable.

Thermals

It is a bit hard to compare thermals and noise considering the different specs, but it is clear that both can handle their components easily. The Dell XPS 13 can handle heavy CPU loads without much noise or heat

The Razer Blade is surprisingly cool and quiet even while gaming, making you wonder if they should have pushed for more performance instead of this pure silence.

There’s definitely room for higher clocks here especially considering that the fan are barely spinning. Razer Blade Stealth vs Dell XPS 13 also stop their fan in light use, so typically you will never hear either of these laptops.

If you want a laptop that will last all day on a battery, both the Razer Blade Stealth and the Dell XPS 13 are good options. Both last about 8 hours of just Netflix watching and up to around 10 hours if you stick to some typing or internet browsing.

Upgrades & Maintenance

Razer Blade Stealth 13 vs Dell XPS 13 are reasonably easy to service considering their size, both open up within two minutes and lets you replace the battery, SSD or clean the fan if you want to. Memory is soldered on both, but on the Razer you can actually upgrade the Wi-Fi 6 in a few years if you want to, and on the XPS you can’t.

When it comes to the included SSD while the performance, doesn’t really impact your work on a compact laptop like this, it is fair to say that Razer Blade model performs considerably better.

On the other hand Dell offers several options ranging from 256GB to 2TB while Razer only lets you think of 512GB SSD and that is pretty easy to fill with a just a couple of games But again both are very easy to upgrade and you don’t have to worry about the SSD that much so

Final Verdict

So both are great laptops that offer a really good user experience with good build quality keyboards, good displays and so on. In the end both are really worth recommending so I cannot make this easy for you and just pick a clear winner.

Razer Blade Stealth 13 vs Dell XPS 13 is really up to you to decide what is important to you. The fact that Razer managed to squeeze a proper GPU into the Blade Stealth 13 is impressive and if you really want a serious gaming laptop you should just consider something bigger.

But if you want to game a bit on the side and still have something ultra portable it really is an impressive little laptop. It is not cheap, but generally it is actually cheaper than the similarly specs Dell XPS 13 and then with the graphics card added, so it’s not a bad deal at all.

If you don’t care about gaming you could consider the Razer Blade Stealth 13 without a Dedicated GPU, but in that case you can also spend a tiny bit more and get the Dell XPS 13 instead it is even smaller, the materials are a bit nicer and the bigger display really helps when space is already so limited.
